History

The early history of Glanzstoff Industries began with the takeover of Glanzstoff Austria by CAG-Holding in the year 1994, and the constant expansion of the production site right in the heart of the city of St. Pölten. Besides tyre yarn (Viscord®), other textile viscose yarns (Viscofil®) were spun in the highest quality using the classical viscose process. A converting plant was acquired in Luxembourg in 1997 - Textilcord Steinford - in order to be able to operate as an integrated provider of tyre fabric from then on. The viscose production capacity doubled in 1998 through the takeover of Glanzstoff Bohemia, so that the Glanzstoff Group rose to become one of the two largest rayon yarn manufacturers worldwide within 15 years. In 2007, the Glanzstoff Group expanded once again through the integration of the Italian converting experts, Sicrem. Following a major fire, it became necessary to close the St. Pölten site in 2008. Industrial scale production of Viscont®FR and Viscont HT started in 2010 with the newly developed Viscont® process.
